Ontario udon restaurant opening its first Toronto location
An Ontario udon restaurant that's amassed a cult following just outside of the city is opening its first Toronto location next month.
After opening their first location in Richmond Hill two years ago, Mikaku Udon Bar is expanding, opening their first downtown Toronto location this September.
Tucked away in a plaza off Highway 7, the udon bar serves up thick, slippery noodles in a slew of different sauces and broths, from traditional buta udon topped with supple slabs of pork belly to chicken curry udon slathered in a thick, creamy curry sauce.
Despite their unassuming location, the restaurant has consistently drawn crowds of avid foodies who praise the spot for their noodle dishes — and it's about to be Toronto's turn to try it out.
Mikaku Udon Bar recently took to their social media to announce that their first downtown Toronto location will be opening in September, giving Toronto-based noodleholics the chance to finally try a bowl from Mikaku without having to commute out of the downtown core.
If udon's not your style, they also offer a selection Japanese snacks that you can sample, like takoyaki, chicken and squid karaage and tofu salad — and there's good reason to believe even the non-udon dishes will be tasty, too.
The udon bar is an outpost of North York's Mikaku Izakaya, an Asian fusion sake bar that's garnered a following of its own thanks to its expansive menu of shareable plates like their signature beef tartare, tteokbokki and tonkatsu, as well as their wide selection of sake.
The brand-new Toronto location for Mikaku Udon Bar will be taking on Cabbagetown, officially opening their doors at 229 Carlton on Sep 1.
